- Divini Rae
Divini Rae D'Marico (pronounced "Div-e-nee") was born in 1977 in a small log cabin in Alaska, USA to parents of Swedish/French background. She grew up very much the minority as one of the only Anglo-Saxons in a town of mostly Athabaskan Indians. Her mother named her Divini Rae because "she said when I was born the first thing that came to mind was that I was like a divine ray of sunshine in her life, and from that derived my name," Divini explains.
She was raised dog sledding and skiing in the harsh winters and watching the subsistence fishermen unload fishing boats full of salmon in the warm summers. She moved out of Alaska to attend university on an academic scholarship that would pay all the costs of her first two years in school. She majored in Psychology and then changed to Public Relations. In college she was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and discovered her passion for acting when she began taking acting courses.
Divini had many part-time jobs during school including bar-tending, telemarketing and staff writer for a newspaper. She began modelling after being discovered by an agent who convinced her it was a good way to make money for her remaining two years in school. "I really didn't want to get into the industry because I've always hated everything superficial and pretentious and the modelling industry is pretty well represented by those adjectives. But the money was great so I decided to give it a shot" says Divini.
After becoming recognizable for a lingerie campaign, Divini appeared on Baywatch. "It was a fun experience but I found Los Angeles to be a bit too overwhelming" Divini says. She got more publicity and attention from doing the show than she was wanting. "There were people coming out of the woodwork who were offering me the world but I believe that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. So I decided to get out of LA for a while and get my head together."
She left LA to holiday in Australia, never expecting that it was a place with which she would fall in love and finally decide to call home.
Now you will find this femme fatale with the Marilyn Monroe curves in television commercials, music videos and avertising campaigns all across Australia. She has graced many covers of Australian magazines, including the scantily clad Gear and Inside Sport Magazine, Australia's version of Sports Illustrated. One modelling job flew her to Darwin, Australia and had her crawling atop a sedated crocodile in a leopard print bikini for the perfect shot. She has also had guest roles and been featured in Australian shows such as Home and Away, Flat Chat and Above the Law as well as the US series Jag.
