Peta grew up an army brat all over the pacific rim, spending several years in Papua New Guinea where her Australian father was stationed. She discovered at a young age a love of performing, in part to help her dealing with changing schools and being the odd one out growing up. She spent summers with her grandparents in Australia, and she remains to this day very close to her family.

Before becoming an actress, Wilson worked as a model. However, performing is her first love. She moved to Los Angeles to study acting with Arthur Mendoza, a protege of Stella Adler.Wilson's credits include a bit part on Highlander: The Series, the films Loser, The Sadness of Sex, A Woman Undone, One of Our Own, and the forthcoming Mercy, co-starring Ellen Barkin, Julian Sands, and Wendy Crewson, directed by her longtime boyfriend Damian Harris. She also has a production company, Sweet Lip productions, and is developing several projects, including Guns In The Night.

Peta meditates, practices yoga, gets acupuncture and takes all kinds of alternative medicines to keep her body in balance. At age 17, she had a year long battle with anorexia.

Originally named Mandy Rogers, at 15, she changed her name to Portia, saying that it was the most daring thing she had ever done at that point. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Melbourne, and studied law. She had studied really hard to get into law. But in 1993, Portia found herself giving special notice to a casting director, who had seen her in a commercial, and auditioned for Sirens, a low budget comedy, starring Hugh Grant. She got the role as Giddy, one of the three gorgeous models in the movie. It wasn't until 1997, that Portia finally started to be recognized. Petra Yared was born in Melbourne, Australia, January 18th, 1979. She has a brother and sister.

Petra Yared, a.k.a. Petra Jared, started doing acting workshops at the National Theatre in Melbourne when she was nine years old. She did a couple of auditions and got her first small role. When she was eleven, she started doing auditions more frequently and got other small parts on television. One of her first major accomplishments came in 1994, when she played one of the leading parts in the Australian series 'Sky Trackers'. One year later, her performance in the miniseries 'Mirror, Mirror 1' earned her the AFI Award for best new talent in 1995 and the Young Actors Award in 1996. In 1996, she held a regular role for two months on 'Neighbours' before leaving the show to finish High School. Since then, she has played in several TV movies and series, including 'Journey To The Center Of The Earth' (see filmography), and performed in several plays for the Melbourne Theatre Company, including 'Pride and Prejudice'. Most recently, she played in Dean Murphy's film 'Muggers'.
